Local Fruits and Vegetables

Too bad tomatoes here are having a salmonella scare. Otherwise, this is an excellent place for tomatoes. My cherry tomato plant has had about 10 little tomatoes on it. Not enough for much of anything other than amusement.

Wherever you live, there is generally a yearly cycle of fruits and veggies that are grown close by - and therefore abundant, cheap and extra fresh when they are in season.

In northern Virginia, we would be coming into cherry, peach and apricot season. They grow in Maryland and Pennsylvania there.

Here, there are Texas peaches and watermelons. Mmmmm. Texas peaches tend to be smaller than east or west coast peaches - at least so far. But, they are extremely sweet and flavorful. And pretty cheap. So, that's my treat for this week. Plus a watermelon. The best watermelon I've eaten in a while. All this hot weather has to be good for something.
