Regular Grocery Store Alienation

Every now and then, I write about how upsetting the normal grocery store is for me. All that bad food everywhere. I don't mean to sound like a broken record, but today I went to the store to buy my husband some bananas and prune juice - while his prescriptions were being filled.

It occurred to me, while shopping, that the problem is really that food means something very different to me than it does to the other shoppers. That's all. It's tasty nourishment to me. It's entertainment and pleasure to them. So, lots of things in the store are inappropriate for me. They are food-tainment and not nourishing at all. After thinking this, my distress shifted to annoyance. I want a CR food store. Whole Foods is pretty close to that, so I am happier shopping there, despite the higher prices.

Hello,

I can relate. Just got back from my weekly grocery shop and I find my CR shopping is very freeing. So many temptations just aren't tempting anymore. I know what I need and I simply truck around the store and load it into my cart. I feel good about what I am picking, because I now realize how good it is for me. Definately makes shopping less of a chore. The challenge now is to explore and try to find more healthy foods to work with. The other bonus is that I feel my money is better spent too. I bet the cost to nutrition ratio is very good. Feels good.

Oh yes, and I understand the feeling of being a grocery shop alien! Very true!
